Xenical- weight loss medication

What is Xenical?

Xenical (also known as Orlistat) is a weight-loss pill designed to help obese people to lose weight. It is one of the most popular weight loss medications in the world. The distributors claim that taking Xenical will make your body absorb 30% less dietary fat. Studies have shown that people using the drug can lose more weight than those just going on a diet.

While it has been shown to work in a number of studies conducted with obese people, Xenical is not a guaranteed weight loss wonder drug.

How does it work?

Xenical inhibits the body’s absorption of fats by up to 30%, by making the intestine’s fat absorption less effective. It is a capsule that you take with meals three times a day for around 4-6 months, or longer.

Who can it benefit?

Xenical is only intended for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 30, or more than 27 with other risk factors such as heart disease. BMI is a calculation based on your height and weight. See our body mass chart for more information.

Are there any side effects?

One of the most common side effects reported is upsets to the digestive system, including increased flatulence, fatty stools, frequent and oily bowel movements. However, these side effects shouldn’t occur if you eat less than 40g of fat per day.

Xenical may also affect your vitamin intake, so taking a vitamin supplement at least 2 hours before or after taking Xenical is also sometimes recommended.

Where can you buy Xenical?

Xenical is available over the counter at your pharmacy. Your pharmacist can advise you whether it is appropriate for you, and may work out your BMI in order to see if you should use Xenical.

Research before you buy

Remember, Xenical and other weight loss drugs may not be appropriate for everyone. Make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Xenical. Weight-Loss-Australia.com.au neither endorses or condemns the use Xenical, but suggests you seek independent advice before taking any medications.
